Lyrics

The first application in the App Store to view Lyrics. Getting the app approved took a few months. This was in the time before iOS 3.0 and before the App Store had age ratings. Apple required songs with explicit texts to be removed or censored. A surprisingly high percentage of the popular songs contains some form of profanity so this made the app kind of useless. Because users complained about the lack of lyrics for popular songs an easter egg was added to disable the profanity filter. (Scroll down three times on the settings screen and an option to disable the filter would appear.)

The discovery of the easter egg generated a lot of press with technical / Apple related blogs (see links for two examples).

Because of the attention that was generated by several blogs it was possible to negotiate a deal with Gracenote to officially license the song texts.

I was responsible for all software engineering (both on the mobile and server side) and app user experience.
